What's that sound?

A memorable aspect of Sydney is the regular sight and sound of the monorail train hurtling overhead as you stroll through the streets of the city centre.



The photo below shows another street near Darling Harbour. Many of the signs and ads are in Chinese as well as English - I was surprised by the ubiquitous Chinese in this part of the city.

I think Monorail its a really nice way of transportation. Does that type of monorail need a pilot? Or is it controled by computers?

Yes, Artur, they do have a driver.
It is powered by electricity and I think it is probably less sophisticated than the Maglev systems.
It avoids the complications of track switching by always running around a fixed loop - nice simple solution!

Announced this week that the monorail system will be dismantled and replaced by a light-rail system.

There is a project aiming to transplant it to Hobart, however!
